6月末的一天傍晚，胡锡奎从河边散步回来，又像往常一样坐在八仙桌前点燃了那盏带罩子的煤油灯。他从案头拿过一摞稿件，聚精会神地审阅起来。过了不久，他忽然喊道：“通讯员，快去把小郑找来！”

One evening at the end of June, Hu Xikui returned from a walk by the river, and sat at a big square table as usual and lit the covered kerosene lamp. He took a stack of manuscripts from the desk and reviewed it attentively. After a while, he suddenly shouted: “Messenger, go and find Xiao Zheng!”

小郑是宣传部干事，驻地离城南庄有七八里远，郑干事奉命赶到时，已是深夜。胡锡奎请他坐下，微笑着问：“你在这稿子里写‘边区军民一年拔掉2993个据点’有什么根据吗？”

Xiao Zheng is an officer of the Propaganda Department, and the station is seven or eight miles away from Chengnanzhuang. When Secretary Zheng was ordered to arrive, it was late at night. 郑干事听了惭愧地说：“我……我错了。”胡锡奎又鼓励他几句，就立即打电话给聂老总询问，通过核实，“2993”原来是“293”之误。

此事传开后，在宣传部和整个区党委机关干部中引起了很大震动，带来了机关工作作风的转变，大家对待工作比以前更加严肃认真，办事更加扎实谨慎了。四十多年后的小郑，即是身为中共中央政治局委员、最高人民法院院长的郑天翔同志，还经常以这个数字的事来教育大家。
